  • Panama Canal, What It Is What It Means

    John Barrett

Paperback (Forgotten Books, Sept. 16, 2017)
Excerpt from Panama Canal, What It Is What It MeansIt has been compiled under the supervision of the Director General of the Pan American Union, who was United States Minister to Panama at the beginning of the work on the canal in 1904-1905, assisting in the diplomatic negotiations establishing the first relations of the government of Panama and that of the Canal Zone. Since then, at other posts and in his present posi tion, he has not only endeavored to follow closely the construe tion of the canal but to study constantly its possible effect upon the progress and prosperity of the American republics. As hehas also been Minister to two other Latin American countries, Argentina and Colombia, as well as delegate to the Second Pan American Conference in Mexico, and, prior to that service, Min ister to Siam in southern Asia, and Commissioner General of the St. Louis World's Fair to Asia and Australia, he has actual acquaintance with the countries and commerce affected by the Panama Canal. It is impossible within the space limitations of a book of this kind to do full justice to the Panama Canal, what it is and what it means, but as much information as possible of a practical and interesting character has been included.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. • Cavalier Generals: King Charles I and His Commanders in the English Civil War 1642 - 46

    John Barratt

eBook (Pen and Sword Military, Sept. 30, 2004)
Previous studies of the Royalist high command have concentrated largely upon a handful of notable individuals such as King Charles himself and Prince Rupert. In this ground-breaking study, John Barratt re-examines these key figures, but he also explores the careers and characters of some of the lesser-known, but equally able Royalist officers. These men played decisive roles in the war, but hitherto they have received little attention.
  • The Funny Side of King Charles II

    John Barnett

He was 12 when the Civil War began and two years later at the age of 14, he was appointed the nominal commander-in-chief in western England. On his return in 1650 he cleverly made a deal with the Scots and was proclaimed King of Scotland. He soon raised a Scottish army and invaded England in 1651, but was defeated by Oliver Cromwell’s Roundhead army at the Battle of Worcester in 1651. • My Life Growing Up

    John E. Bartlett

    language (John E. Bartlett, Feb. 15, 2016)
My childhood probably wasn't much different from yours and many others then again it might be a whole lot different. I imagine much of it depends on the way you were brought up. How your parents raised you. Did you have respect for them and others. Were you honest about yourself and things you did or said to others. My parents were the best in my world. Dad wasn't home much but he was a truck driver and he chose that way of life to be able too give us a better way of life.Coming into the world with good parents and the respect for them and others in your community made a big difference in the way you looked at life in general. But my life was great until the day my best friend my lover and my everything went missing. Lea Ann and I had a true relationship. We were best friends since grade school. Some how along the way we fell in love with one and other. I guess that is part of coming out of your childhood years and into adulthood. Lea Ann was abducted and raped by a couple of sick bastards that lived just on the edge of town. It was gut wrenching to think what they did too her. My biggest fear was whether I would get her back or not and would she ever be the same.
